Homayra Adiba

A fun fact about my name: My father never gave me a surname. My name thus consists of two first names. He wanted me to make my own name in the world.

Hi there,
স্বাগতম

I believe in the power of storytelling.

I am a multidisciplinary artist, storyteller and student anthropologist. I am currently working on my PhD at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh, I migrated to Michigan, USA, in 2016. My migration shaped my perspective on how I think of 'Home.' My work is rooted in the ideas of home, work, relationships, and mundanity- spaces and times that shape us.

I am interested in art informed by research. Having graduated in Professional Photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, I steered my journey towards an Associate in Fine Arts and recently graduated from Schoolcraft College in 2024. In 2026, I graduated with Honors from the University of Michigan (Sub-Major in Culture and Media; Minor in Museum Studies). My thesis looks into how the categorization of "essential workers" influenced social, political, and moral ideologies among retail workers and customers amid the COVID-19 Pandemic in a superstore.
